Image Madonna runs a wide line through the entire career of Sandro Botticelli. There are about 15 paintings where Madonna is present.

"Madonna and Child with Five Angels" refers to the early work of the master and was written in 1470. The creative independence of Botticelli in this period was not yet strengthened, and in the picture you can feel the influence of the master’s teacher, Filippo Lippi.

True, Botticelli nevertheless brings an innovative touch to the image: his Madonna is elongated, his hands are thin and graceful. On the head of the Madonna is a veil of blue color, flowing down in soft folds. Her clothes are loose cut, wide, softly fall to the floor. A drapery of robes encircles the body of the Madonna. The attire itself is pale blue and red-pink.

The image of the Madonna with a child in her arms is very tender, she looks fragile and feminine. Behind the Madonna are five angels, standing closely pressed against each other. They are like wings behind her, are responsible for her life, physical and spiritual. They are also a symbol of faith and humility of the Madonna before God. Her gaze is directed directly at the viewer, he is serious and somewhat sad and expresses uncertainty. The baby in her arms is sleeping, wrapped in a canvas, holding on to her hands with love and hope. The psychological connection between mother and child is subtly indicated through an object generalizing them, which both characters hold on to.

The heroes of Botticelli's “Madonna and Child with Five Angels” are in a small enclosed space, on the canvas, nothing is depicted on the canvas except their figures, there simply is no place left. Everything is as close as possible and close to the viewer.

The picture leaves an impression of thoughtfulness, slight sadness. Light falls on the Madonna and the angels, while the background is very dark, it is a dark curtain with a golden pattern.
